More scrutiny with the TSA?

I have to travel via the airport once a quarter to Philly. I noticed in the news tighter scrutiny is being done by the TSA. Not so much regarding those possible hidden weapons, rather apparel.

Take this poor chap.

He wasn't allowed to board due to his shirt stating "We will not be silent" written in arabic and english. The full story is found here. Of course he filed a lawsuit with the ACLU. You can view the whole thing here

Recently in the news, talk of new restrictions by TSA include pulling those aside with headgear. Yes, this includes cowboy hats, berets, ect. However, one religion is more none for headgear than others.

No not this one.

This one.

And they are not happy.

Respectively, I agree all the non-essential body wear should be removed and scanned. I have to pull my shoes, jackets, ect off. Why not add a hat?

But I am concern with the t-shirt issue. As my 5 readers know, I normally wear christian t-shirts, even through the airport. If they were to pull or delay someone wearing a shirt with "We will not be silent", why not doing the same with a shirt stating "Jesus is the only way to heaven" ?

I fear to see the airport to become more and more 'religion/free speech sterile'.

Think about it...

If some Muslim dude is going to blow up an airplane, do you really think he'd wear a t-shirt saying "We will not be silent"? That seems like a pretty bad idea.

I like the shirt, actually. I think it poignantly makes a pretty cool statement; namely, "Some crazy fundamentalist guys blew shit up, and just because they and I both point towards the same thing when we pray, that doesn't mean I should feel the threat of persecution dangling over my head like the Sword of Damocles."

Let's turn it around and look at things from a different angle, though. (This is, incidentally, one of my favourite pastimes.) Let's say I happened to stroll into a big Baptist church wearing a shirt that says, "Jesus is alright, but he's no Prophet Mohammed (pbuh)". Or how about a shirt with a big Star of David and the inscription, "Nice guy, but not the Messiah". Both of these are religion-based jabs, as was that Muslim fellow's shirt.

I'm honestly curious to try that out. I think there's a crazy-fundamentalist church up the street from me... all I have to do is get some plain white t-shirts and a Sharpie. :)

I'd prefer not to have to walk through a gauntlet of missionaries. It gets to be quite tedious.
